The lodge on the old route since 1843
A house for travellers
People have stopped here for almost two hundred years. The mail route passed by, and travellers needed a roof over their heads.
1799
The mountain mail between Hammerfest and Haparanda passes by.
1843
Suolovuopmi becomes the first mountain lodge in Finnmark.
1874
A contract obliges the lodge to receive travellers around the clock.
1944
The lodge is burned during the war.
After the war
The houses are rebuilt. They have changed little since.
1961
The Klingan couple take over the lodge.
2012
The guest house is fully restored.
Today
Maj-Lis Klingan runs the lodge as the second generation.

The second generation
Maj-Lis grew up at the lodge. She trained as a nurse and midwife, and came home to run her childhood home. Guests come from all over the world.
